Communication Network Reliability under geographically correlated failures using Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis

The research community’s attention has been attracted to the reliability of networks exposed large-scale disasters and this become a critical concern in network studies during last decade. Earthquakes are high on list those showing most significant impacts communication networks, simultaneously, they least predictable events. This study uses Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis method estimate element state after an earthquake. approach considers seismic source model ground prediction equations assess intensity measure for each according its location. In simulation, nodes fail building’s fragility curves. Similarly, links failure rate depending cable’s characteristics. We use source-terminal, diameter constrained metrics. goes beyond graph representation incorporates terrain characteristics component’s robustness into performance analysis at affordable computational cost. region with almost 9000 km optical fiber. observed that source-terminal less than 500 apart improvements marginals while more 1000 apart, improves near 30% enhanced designs. also showed these results depend heavily robustness/fragility infrastructure, measures based only topology not enough evaluate new
